The
BIO-DTM System
of degradation essentially modifies the polymer matrix to make the polyolefin
oxo-biodegradable, which leads to chain scissions and hence a lowering
of molecular weight besides creating a hydrophilic surface which can be
bio-assimilated by microorganisms in the soil.
Hence the unique feature
of this system is the controlled modification of the polymer matrix.
These
polyolefin resins can be easily processed on conventional processing equipment
to give totally degradable or compostable plastic products will degrade
or compost when subjected to or exposed to sunlight, heat and/or stress
conditions which are commonly present in the environment. A combination
of any one of the aforementioned factors is enough to trigger the oxidation
process, which will turn the once tough and flexible plastic product into
brittle fragments that will eventually convert into carbon-di-oxide, water
and biomass, leaving absolutely no toxic by-products. |
